Even more so: the way we look largely determines our opportunities, the choices we make and how we treat people. Doortje Smithuijsen explores and discusses the phenomenon of 'aesthetic capital' in the new podcast of profile theme Connected World.

We dress according to TikTok trends such as Old money, Barbiecore or Coastal grandma. We apply filters on social media, carefully select our dates via dating apps based on looks and take botox at a young age to avoid looking old. At the same time, on platform BeReal, we must show the "most real" version of ourselves.
